Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What kind of accommodation will be provided for the students?
On the Cambodia trip, we will be staying in guesthouse accommodation. Students will be in twin or triple rooms, and each room has airconditioning and a private bathroom. The most likely guesthouse the students would be using is called RithyRine and they have lots of pictures on their website: www.rithyrineangkorhotel.com
What is the weather like during that time of year?
May is the start of the rainy season in Cambodia. However this doesn’t mean that it rains all day every day. Usually you would expect a short sharp shower each afternoon, which is usually quite refreshing rather than causing any problems. It is relatively hot, with temperatures averaging in the late 20’s. We make sure we manage the program to spend plenty of time in the shade.
Any worries about specific “creepy crawlies”/ insects?
As with any rural program in Asia, we may encounter some creepy crawlies along the way. However the vast majority are no problem whatsoever, and seeing the occasional bug is all part of the experience. Malaria is not considered to be an issue in Siem Reap, though we do advise the students to have some insect repellent with them, especially for early evenings.
Will the students be provided with clean/bottled weather?
Yes. Students will be provided with a drinking flask at the beginning of the week, and always have access to clean drinking water, usually which has been chilled.
Do the students need to get injections before going?
The quick and simple answer to this is no. However every student has a different medical history, and we can only advise that students speak to their own doctor who know about their personal circumstances. The official line is as follows:
No vaccinations are required to visit Cambodia under normal circumstances, though as with any trip, it is recommended that you ensure you are healthy before travel, and up to date on routine vaccinations. Websites such as CDC (http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/cambodia) can provide helpful information, but as each traveler has a unique medical history, participants should consult their doctor or travel nurse before travelling.
Could different dietary requirements be catered for?
Yes we happily cater for dietary requirements. About 4 weeks before the trip we will contact you for a list of all the medical and dietary requirements for the group and we will ensure that everyone is catered for. Generally the dinners tend to be buffet style so there is plenty of choice, and at lunches also we make sure there is variety.
