Student Instruction Sheet
Stage 1: Constructing a Research Question
Over the course of this year you have studied the following topics: Conflict, MDG’s, Business Planning, Masarang, & Democracy. Using the ideas that you have covered you are required to construct three proposed research questions and one final question for assessment.
Your research questions should be something that you can answer using the knowledge and information covered this year. They should be broad enough to cover different perspectives and ideas. It should be specific so that you can demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the different areas covered.
Take your time to draft and think through your questions:

Stage 2: Creating a Documentary group
(1 Week -23rd May)
Establish the key roles in your group according to the skills your group has. Challenge yourself to do a role that will make you step out of your comfort zone.
Create a google drive folder with the name of your group and share this with your class teacher. This will contain the following documents:
As a group you will choose one research question and create an action plan to investigate your topic. This involves constructing an outline of your documentary and recording the sources of information used and show how you will answer your research question.
A template will be provided for this in class in week 2.
Submit your Action Plan to your class teacher for assessment.
Criteria B: follows an action plan effectively to investigate a research question, uses methods accurately to collect and record appropriate and varied information in line with the research question

Stage 3: Writing the script
Before any filming can be done there must be a vision, script and direction to your documentary. Create a google doc and in your group folder where everyone in your group can contribute.
Stage 4: Planning production and filming
Duplicate the script and place it in a 4 column table.
Column 1 - The script
Column 2 - Filming comments - place, angles
Column 3 - Sound requirements - music, voice over, sounds
Column 4 - Production requirements - props, costumes, other notes
Stage 5: Filming
Before you start filming check in with your teacher.
Once you have been cleared for production let the filming begin!
Stage 6: Editing
Bring all the components together and each person needs to contribute to the final product.

- Could it be answered with many different sources of information?
- Does your questions start with - ‘To what extent’, ‘Should’, ‘How’?
- Could you construct a short film to answer your question?
- Does your questions allow many more specific small questions to be asked from it?
- Can you relate to the ‘big’ ideas and concepts taught this year?

- Action plan
- Outline of roles
- Meeting minutes and records
- Final script (once written)

A few things to consider:
- Your documentary should be a documentary and inform the audience while being interesting.
- The final product should be no longer than 4 minutes long (not including credits).
- Your film should have credits and acknowledge the sources used
- Your work will be peer assessed & the Teacher will have to agree on your FINAL grade
